Bec comes from an education background and later became a Teacher of the Deaf and Hearing and Communication Specialist (HCS) after completing a Master of Learning Intervention (Hard of Hearing) at Melbourne University. She understands the many challenges that families of deaf and hard-of-hearing children face, from the initial diagnosis to specialist appointments, funding access, and navigating different modes of communication.
With a strong family-centred approach, Bec works in partnership with parents to empower them as the ‘experts’ in providing language and communication experiences through everyday routines and play. This support extends beyond the home into community, educational, and social settings, ensuring inclusive environments for each child.
She is dedicated to building a strong team around the child, collaborating with professionals such as Hearing Australia, CHIC/PHLIC clinics, Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Paediatricians, and more. Supporting families and working alongside them to understand their child’s strengths and needs is a privilege, and she finds this role incredibly rewarding.
