counselling and psychotherapy

Our team of counsellors and psychotherapists are passionate, dedicated professionals committed to supporting individuals of all ages to achieve their psychological goals. All team members are registered with PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia) and ACA (Australian Counselling Association) and bring extensive experience and training across various areas, such as play therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), EMDR, and neurodiversity-affirming practice.

what we help with

We support a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, self-harm, eating disorders, relationship challenges, and more. We also support individuals with specific needs – for example, autistic individuals and those with ADHD wanting to improve emotional regulation, social connection, and coping skills.

Sessions can be offered individually, with families, in groups, or with couples. We also work closely with families, schools, and other professionals to provide a unified, wrap-around approach.

You don’t need to be in crisis or have a formal diagnosis to benefit from counselling or psychotherapy. Whether you’re navigating a difficult season or working toward personal growth, therapy can provide valuable insight, support, and strategies for change.

Play Therapy

Play therapy is a powerful, evidence-based approach for children aged 4 to 12 years. It helps increase engagement in therapy by allowing children to express and process their inner and real-life experiences through play, rather than words. In a safe and supportive space, children can explore and regulate their emotions, communicate, and develop new skills, while also gaining insight and building emotional resilience.

Caregiver and Family Supports

We provide caregivers with emotional support and a safe space to express and process their feelings. By providing tools and practical strategies, we support caregivers to cope with stress, anxiety and feelings of overwhelm, lowering the risk of carer burnout. We also build caregivers’ knowledge and confidence to better understand and respond to their loved one’s needs.

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy offers a collaborative space for partners to explore relationship patterns, improve communication, and work through challenges. With support from a therapist, couples can better understand each other and strengthen emotional connection.

Family Therapy

We help family members understand and address issues affecting the family dynamic, such as emotional struggles, behavioural problems, or major life changes. Therapy can improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen relationships. Depending on the situation, sessions may involve the whole family or just certain members.

EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based approach that helps people process trauma and distressing experiences. This service will be available from September 2025.

our approach

Building a strong therapeutic relationship is at the core of our work, as it establishes the trust and safety needed for meaningful change. Once this foundation is in place, we use a person-centred, strengths-based approach, working at each individual’s pace to help them achieve their goals and unlock their potential.

We also work closely with families, schools, and other professionals to provide a unified, wrap-around approach to care that acknowledges the important role of relationships and environments in supporting an individual’s wellbeing.

how we work

We provide therapy that is thoughtful, inclusive, and tailored to each individual. Whether we’re supporting a child, adult, couple, or family, our goal is to create a safe space where people feel heard, understood, and empowered.

Initial Session

We take time to listen to your concerns, your story, your goals, and what matters most to you.

Building a Meaningful Connection

We build a strong therapeutic relationship through empathetic listening and thoughtful communication. We provide a non-judgemental space where you and/or your child can feel comfortable expressing yourselves.

Goal Setting and Support Plans

We work with you to set clear and achievable goals for therapy. We design a personalised support plan tailored to your individual needs – these plans are flexible and adapted as necessary to ensure the best possible progress.

Reviewing Progress and Goals

Regular reviews allow us to reflect on your progress, adjust goals as needed, and celebrate your successes along the way.

Reports

When needed, we can provide formal reports and recommendations to support access to services or funding (e.g. NDIS, Disability Inclusion Program (DIP)).

Support Networks

We work closely with schools and other professionals to ensure a connected, wrap-around approach to supporting your or your child’s progress and wellbeing.

accessing counselling and psychotherapy services

Counselling and psychotherapy can be funded by the NDIS. Clients can also choose to pay out of pocket and may be eligible to claim a rebate through their private health insurance provider. Counselling and psychotherapy services focus on building the capacity of carers, therefore parents and carers can also use their child’s NDIS funding to access supports.

THRIVE

Thrive is a support stream at Peninsula Plus that you might be offered, or choose to access, whilst waiting for other services or when you are experiencing an overwhelming period in your/family's life. It is a capacity building support provided to help with:

  • Advocating effectively for your child and accessing other potential supports
  • Sustaining your efforts and preventing carer burnout
  • Connecting you with other parents and carers to reduce isolation, if needed
  • Experiencing joy and fun as a family and celebrating your child's strengths
