early intervention pathway

Our Early Intervention Pathway supports children who have not yet started primary school and need support from one or more allied health professionals at Peninsula Plus. Currently, this pathway is available with our Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists.

the goal of the early intervention pathway:

Provide children and families with timely, targeted support.

Use focused assessments to guide future skill development and parent/carer capacity building

Connect families with specialised services and mainstream supports, both within Peninsula Plus and the wider community

Help caregivers build their capacity to support their child’s development at home and in the community

Provide families with a report that can assist with an initial NDIS application or support ongoing NDIS funding needs

how does it work?

Families begin with a block of eight sessions, with flexibility in how these sessions are used. Your clinician will collaborate with you to create a tailored plan, which may include:

  • A comprehensive assessment to understand your child’s needs.
  • Up to four direct therapy sessions with an Occupational Therapist or Speech Pathologist
  • Caregiver coaching to equip parents and caregivers with strategies to support their child’s development.
  • A referral to a more suitable program, if needed (e.g. group programs)

who is it for?

This pathway is designed for children aged 0 to 6 years who have not yet started primary school and experience one or more of the following:

  • Two or more developmental concerns in areas such as communication, motor skills, play, social interactions, and/or learning
  • Significant meltdowns or challenging behaviours
  • Concerns about transitioning to school
  • Parents or caregivers who feel overwhelmed or have high levels of concern about their child’s development

who is it not for?

This pathway is not for children who have already accessed individual therapy or assessment services at Peninsula Plus.

However, children who have only participated in group programs are still eligible, as this pathway provides a different type of support.
