Hello! My name is James and I’m a counsellor and play therapist at Peninsula Plus.
I was drawn to counselling and the helping profession due to my personal experiences with helping others. I found I had a skill in helping others that I wanted to foster into a career. Previously working in the creative field, working as an animator, videographer and photographer, I began to work as a mental health support worker before completing the Master of Counselling at Monash University, during which I started my work at Peninsula Plus as a student in 2024. Now fully qualified in 2026, I’m ready to contribute all that I can to the field!
My focus as a counsellor at Peninsula Plus is as a play therapist with children 12 and under, but I also thoroughly enjoy capacity counselling with teenagers and adults I’m grateful that I have the opportunity at Peninsula Plus to work with such a diverse range of clients from all different walks of life, at different ages (primarily 5-19 years old), and with various neurotypes. I’m grateful for the opportunity to have my experience as a neurodiverse person with an ADHD diagnosis lend and contribute to my professional work for the betterment of others.
Outside of work, I love to immerse myself in creativity, including singing, writing poetry, drawing, video-editing, and shooting photos and videos. I love to engage with the creative work of others, including TV shows, movies, video games, music, visual art, and I’m recently reconnecting with books and novels! I also love to play trading card games and the process of deck-building, particularly in Magic: The Gathering. I am furthermore very much looking forward to facilitating the Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) group from February 2026 onwards as a player with previous experience!
Thank you for reading!
