neurodevelopmental assessment pathway

We use a team-based approach to assess individuals presenting with traits of autism and/or ADHD. Our team of experienced psychologists, speech pathologists and occupational therapists work together to complete a comprehensive assessment for autism and ADHD and make recommendations about current supports and future needs.

how does it work?

A series of appointments are booked as part of the assessment process, including:

Initial Appointment – A one-on-one session with one of our assessing clinicians to discuss background history and current challenges. For child assessments, this appointment is attended by a caregiver (parent or non-parent carer).

MIGDAS Assessment – An appointment with two assessing clinicians using the MIGDAS assessment tool, which provides a neuro-affirming, personalised, and positive experience for individuals.

Cognitive Assessment – If the individual has not had a cognitive assessment in the past two years, this will be completed in either one longer session (2 hours) or two shorter sessions, depending on individual needs.

Community Observation – Completed in most cases, to better understand the individual’s interactions and experiences. For child assessments, the observation is conducted in a kindergarten or school setting

Behavioural Questionnaires – Caregivers and educators (if applicable) complete questionnaires to provide insights into the individual’s experiences and needs across different settings.

Report and Recommendations – Both assessing clinicians review all assessment findings and collaborate to create a detailed report with feedback, information relating to any diagnosis, and recommendations for further supports.

Feedback Session – A final session to discuss results and next steps. For child assessments, this session is attended by a caregiver.

who is it for?

This assessment pathway is for individuals of all ages who may experience differences in social, emotional or communication development that impact daily life and wish to explore if they may be neurodiverse. The assessment helps individuals understand their neurodiversity and explore supports that suit their unique needs. Appointments are tailored to suit each person’s age and circumstances.

who is it not for?

For children under 3 years of age, it may be helpful to speak with a paediatrician before booking an assessment. Families may also find it useful to schedule an initial psychologist consultation to discuss whether assessment is the best next step or if therapy support would be more beneficial at this stage.
