What Is the THRIVE Program? Supporting Families While They Wait
Waitlists for allied health services are a reality across Australia right now. If you’ve joined a waitlist for speech pathology, occupational therapy, or psychology at Peninsula Plus — or anywhere else — you know the feeling of sitting in uncertainty, wondering what to do while you wait. That’s part of why we created THRIVE.
What is THRIVE?
THRIVE is a capacity-building support stream at Peninsula Plus. It’s available to families who are waiting for a one-on-one therapy service, or who are going through an overwhelming period and need a different kind of support.
THRIVE is not therapy in the traditional sense. It’s a practical, family-focused support that wraps around parents and carers to help them not just survive — but thrive — while navigating complex circumstances.
What does THRIVE support?
Advocacy
Navigating the NDIS, school, and the healthcare system can feel like a full-time job. THRIVE support helps you understand what you’re entitled to, prepare for NDIS planning meetings, write school letters, and connect with the right services.
Preventing carer burnout
Caring for a child with additional needs is meaningful — and exhausting. THRIVE creates space for caregivers to be heard, access practical strategies, and build their own resilience and capacity.
Reducing isolation
One of the most consistent things families tell us is how lonely it can feel to navigate challenges that others around them don’t seem to understand. THRIVE can help connect you with other families in similar situations, reducing isolation and building community.
Joy and strength
THRIVE also focuses on celebrating what’s going well. Recognising your child’s strengths, finding moments of joy, and building on what’s working is just as important as identifying what’s hard.
Who is THRIVE for?
- Families on a waitlist for a Peninsula Plus service
- Families going through a particularly demanding period — following a diagnosis, managing multiple appointments, or navigating school difficulties
- Families who want practical support and coaching between therapy sessions
Can NDIS funding cover THRIVE?
Yes. THRIVE is a capacity-building support and can be funded under Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living in an NDIS plan. Our team can help you understand whether this applies to your situation.
