Research States:
Here are a couple of research studies supporting the importance of self-awareness and targeted interventions for anxiety management in neurodivergent children:
- Raising Self-Awareness Reduces Anxiety
A study published in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders (2015) highlighted that interventions focusing on emotional awareness and self-regulation significantly reduced anxiety in neurodivergent children. Teaching children to recognise and name their emotions helped them feel more in control and empowered to use coping strategies effectively.
- Tailored Interventions for Coping with Anxiety
Research from the Journal of Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology (2017) demonstrated that individualised programs teaching relaxation techniques, mindfulness, and problem-solving significantly improved anxiety symptoms in children aged 5 to 12, especially those with neurodivergent profiles. Personalised approaches addressing each child’s triggers were shown to be particularly effective in fostering resilience.
These studies underline the value of equipping children with self-awareness and practical tools, like those offered in the Unstoppable Me program, to enhance their capacity to manage anxiety and thrive.
